Samsung thinks the Blu-ray disc format won't survive past 5 years, while Sony is betting the Blu-Ray disc format will be enough to drive sales for a full 10-year lifecycle.
|

"I think it (Blu-ray) has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn't give it 10", said Andy Griffiths, director of consumer electronics at Samsung UK, according to Pocket-lint.
After 5 years, Griffiths believes Blu-Ray will be replaced with a new format or technology, probably online HD media.
But 1st, Samsung is prepared to make profit on Blu-Ray in 2008, a year in which it expects the format to peak & make the most money for the industry.
"It's going to be huge", he said. "We are heavily back-ordered at the moment."
Well, time will tell but if you look at the current DVD/Blu-ray situation, online media will be a strong contender the coming years.
