Toshiba will launch Blu-ray products as early as this year, according to the Japanese newspaper the Yomiuri.
Major Hollywood studios with vast movie back catalogs decided to choose for Blu-ray, because of the DRM restrictions of Blu-ray & regio-coding (HD DVD is region free) The massive move to the Blu-ray format pushed Toshiba to concede defeat & give up on promoting HD DVD in early 2008 .
Despite the fact that Toshiba still believes online media will grow faster then Blu-ray disc distribution rapid growth of demand for Blu-ray products in Japan encouraged Toshiba to enter the Blu-ray market.
