| Hitachi will double its plasma panel output capacity in the year starting in April & increase panel sales to other TV makers in an effort to make its flat TV business profitable. |

Hitachi also said it will buy Fujitsu Ltd's 4.6% stake in their plasma panel joint venture to make it a wholly owned unit, according to Reuters.
Hitachi is the world's 4th-largest plasma TV maker behind Panasonic maker Matsushita, Samsung & LG Electronics Inc.
Hitachi said it will boost its plasma panel output capacity to 2.4 million units a year next business year, up from the current 1.2 million. Most of the production gear needed for the expansion has been installed at its plant in western Japan.
Besides internal use for its own TVs, it plans to sell 500,000 plasma panels to other TV makers in the six months to March 2009 and 1.2 million units in the year starting in April 2009, competing head on with LG Electronics and other plasma panel suppliers.
This isn't surprising though, because of the recently predicted sales boost of Plasma screens this year. Especially in the strong 32 Inch market segment - which is mainly dominated by LCD panels -, Plasma will gain a huge markteshare this year. | |
