| Pioneer is introducing G8 eighth generation panels. Aptly named project Kuro (kuro means black in Japanese) Pioneer aims to extend plasma's and its own dominance of this area of flat screen technology with performance that will be an improvement on anything seen previously. |

Pioneer will release 42 inch, 50 inch and 60 inch XGA (1365 x 768) models this summer (PDP-428XD, PDP-508HD, PDP-608D) followed by Full HD models later in the year.
Why does the company place such a high priority on black level performance? Well, Pioneer believe that without black or very close to true black, colour accuracy is lost, and they hope to achieve pure black levels with a new pixel drive electrode design allied to 'Pure Drive' video processing.
No details yet on pricing, but expect the new G8 panels to retail from 2500 Euro upwards. |
